Throughout my travels so far, I can honestly say I have learnt a lot about how to budget and still maintain a trip of a lifetime. For many of us, travel is a longed for luxury that only happens once a year, but I am here to tell you that it is possible to get more travel out of less money!
Book tickets ahead of time to really find the good deals! You will be surprised by what you can find if you put in a little time to do some research, and find flights and accommodation that are within your means, which is very possible. I would also say, you can find cheap deals on lastminute.com for any “last minute” travel plans or holidaypirates.com. But I would highly recommend booking in advance for everything as it will be much cheaper.
Many of us can tend to over pack items we do not need and haul along masses of clothes and shoes that we probably won’t wear anyway! This can weigh you down. Approach packing like a minimalist and you will be able to move about more freely. This might also reduce your travel costs such as airfare and or taxi fares.
There are a variety of travel vouchers that you can take advantage of. If you are a student, you may be able to get student discounts on activities in your destination. You may also find family and group discounts for trips and excursions. Always look into what offers are made within the local community events and tour guide companies to see if you can save on your fun days out!
Use Public Transport
Once you have arrived to your travel destination, think about the location of your accommodation. If it near local amenities and towns? Is it a central location? If you are looking to save, this will be a vital factor that determines if you need to rent a car or not. The advantage with being close to most prime locations is the availability of places and things to do within walking distance. It is more likely that you will be able to get public transport to and from places with greater ease. If you decide to stay at a more rural destination, find out what deals you can get on car rentals way in advance.
Choose Self-catering Instead of Full Board When it comes to food, we all want to experience the best that the location has to offer. If you are looking to save and still enjoy the delicacies of the place you plan to visit, why not find out where the locals eat because this is where the real flavours of the place will shine through. Paying for expensive meals at fancy restaurants is great, but it is catered to the tourists. Street food and local restaurants are just as good, if not even better, and if you still want to experience fancy dinning, you can always choose to go all out on certain days of your trip.
There we have it! These are the five ways to make travel more affordable. If you would like me to share even more details on how to travel on a budget, feel free to comment in the section below and share your thoughts and ideas!
